This is my first test after I purchased this nas. First thing I did was to update the firmware. I then installed two 1TB WD green drives and used RAID-1 configuration with ext3 option. I connected an external drive (ntfs formatted) and copied a few files. The copy was very slow averaging about 1.5mb/s, but I thought may be the ntfs support is poor. I tried to copy from the share and I was getting terrible speeds of 25k/s to 256k/s. When I logged in to the system using telnet and run hdparm, I got these results:

Code:
bash-3.00# hdparm -Tt /dev/md1

/dev/md1:
 Timing cached reads: 136 MB in 2.00 seconds = 68.00 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 12 MB in 3.47 seconds = 3.46 MB/sec
Notice the terrible speeds reported. The machine in general seems sluggish and I don't know how to find the CPU activity. I also ran hdparm on the individual disks, which is only slightly better:

Code:
bash-3.00# hdparm -Tt /dev/hda1

/dev/hda1:
 Timing cached reads: 138 MB in 2.00 seconds = 69.00 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 48 MB in 3.07 seconds = 15.64 MB/sec
bash-3.00# hdparm -Tt /dev/hda2

/dev/hda2:
 Timing cached reads: 138 MB in 2.01 seconds = 68.66 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 52 MB in 3.07 seconds = 16.94 MB/sec
Does anyone have an idea why I am getting such bad performance? Any clues on how to improve it?
