Thread: Windows cannot access \\STORAGE-21FD

    Default Windows cannot access \\STORAGE-21FD

    I have several windows 7 computers in my house, but one is particular cannot connect to the gearbox for files. I always get this error "Windows cannot access \\STORAGE-21FD" when attempting to do so. I've moved this computer to another location (where I know the connection works), and still, it won't work. Ipv4 address of computer = 192.168.0.101
    IP address of gearbox = 192.168.0.111

    Computer is windows 7, AMD 1055T (hexa core). Hell...p

    Thanks

    Can you access it via the IP address?
    Like: \\192.168.0.111

    If you can, then check your NetBIOS/LMHOSTS configuration.
    From the MS support site:
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Under Network and Internet, click View network status and tasks.
    3. Click Change adapter settings.
    4. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
    5. In the This connection uses the following items list, double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), click Advanced, and then click the WINS tab.
    6. Click Use NetBIOS setting from the DHCP server, and then click OK three times.

    Hope that works

    Ok, odd, now I cannot see the NAS in the network area. My objective was to map the NAS to a drive letter on my computer... BUT I can see it was a media device....

    I can connect to the web interface, no problemo.

    The NAS is on a fixed IP address, not sure if that makes a difference.
    Thanks.

    Can you access your files via the IP address though?
    Try mapping it from the command line like this:
    Start->Run...
    Type cmd and press OK
    Then type the following:
    net use z: \\192.168.0.111\folder /u:NASusername
    once you hit enter, you should be prompted for a password.
    Oh, and by the way, what firmware version are you using?

    Firmware = R3282-1.60b LOADER32 1.20e W1.33-FAT32

    Your solution works. Do I have to do this everytime I boot windows? and is there anyway to get it showing under "network?"

    So that you don't have to type that in every time you reboot I think you use:
    net use z: \\192.168.0.111\folder /u:NASusername /PERSISTENT:YES

    Check that the Gearbox is in the same workgroup as you. On the web interface it should say "Group Name Workgroup" or something like that. Change that to what ever your computers use. (To check, right click on My Computer-> Properties-> Computer Name) No sure if it's the same in Win7 though.

    Thank you for your info it has been helpful but I am having a hard time figuring out my password. Can you tell me what password they need here? I have a password set up on my Net Disk set up but that apparently isn't the correct one. I appreciate the help!
